Technology

AGM · EFB · Calcium

Three lead-acid technologies, each designed for a different kind of vehicle and driving.

AGM

Absorbent Glass Mat

Aurion's top starting battery. The acid is soaked into fine glass-fibre mats packed between the plates, so an AGM gives very high cranking power, recovers from deep drains and copes with vibration. It's built for modern stop-start cars with lots of electronics.

EFB

Enhanced Flooded Battery

A flooded battery made tougher. Thicker grids and a polyester scrim hold the active material on the plates, so an EFB lasts through far more charge cycles than a standard battery. It's the value choice for entry-level stop-start cars.

Calcium

Calcium Maintenance-Free

The dependable workhorse. A fully maintenance-free sealed design whose calcium-alloy plates greatly reduce water loss and self-discharge, giving strong, reliable cranking with no upkeep. Ideal for vehicles without stop-start.

  1. 1
    Case

    Tough polypropylene box holding everything.

  2. 2
    Cells

    Six cells in series, ~2.1 V each = 12.6 V.

  3. 3
    Positive plates

Lead dioxide (PbO₂) on a lead-alloy grid.

  4. 4
    Negative plates

Sponge lead (Pb), interleaved with the positives.

  5. 5
    Separators

Porous sheets that stop plates touching.

  6. 6
    Terminals

Positive (+) and negative (−) posts.

  7. 7
    Lid & vents

Seals the cells; vents let gas escape safely.

Choosing well

The right technology for how you drive

Start with what your vehicle came with, then think about how and where you drive it.

Start with the original

The factory battery type is the minimum. Stop-start vehicles in particular need EFB or AGM.

Think about your loads

Accessories, short trips and heat all affect a battery. Your workshop can help match the technology to your use.
